Hunter Storm

Purpose

The purpose of HSRMS is to provide a durable, extensible structure for managing the Hunter Storm corpus across its websites, research activities, institutional work, publications, frameworks, archives, and related digital infrastructure.

The system is intended to support:

• consistent identification of records and artifacts;
• classification by subject, function, and archival context;
• controlled artifact-type and subtype terminology;
• property and series context;
• relationships between records and related materials;
• provenance and attribution;
• version and historical continuity;
• lifecycle and archival management;
• reliable retrieval and search;
• continuity as the corpus expands or changes.

 

HSRMS is not limited to the management of individual documents. It provides the architectural context in which those records exist and remain intelligible over time.

 

Enterprise Records Management

HSRMS provides an enterprise records-management architecture for the Hunter Storm ecosystem, encompassing records and information assets across its interconnected websites, properties, research activities, institutional work, publications, frameworks, archives, and related systems. “Enterprise” refers to the scope and architectural boundary of the records environment rather than the size of the organization.

 

Relationship to ERMS and Records Systems

HSRMS is a records management system designed for the Hunter Storm digital environment. The term Electronic Records Management System (ERMS) is used in records-management practice for systems specifically designed to manage electronic records, including their content, context, structure, relationships, maintenance, and disposition. HSRMS encompasses these records-management functions while also defining the broader classification, identification, metadata, provenance, relationship, governance, and archival architecture in which those functions operate.

 

Etymology and Origin

The HSRMS is informally known as the Weapon of Mass Documentation™ (WMD). The term reflects the system’s deliberately comprehensive approach to documentation, classification, identification, and preservation.

The architecture also emerged within what Hunter Storm informally refers to as “Spook Wars,” a period in which questions of attribution, provenance, information integrity, system behavior, and preservation of historical context became increasingly significant. The terminology is intentionally informal; the underlying records-management architecture is not.

The database provides the technical environment where the architecture is operationalized. HSRMS is the architecture itself.
